It was established in 1910 from a section of Marion County, which was named after Revolutionary War hero James Dillon. The county covers an area of 447 square miles and has a population of approximately 32,000 people. The first settlement, called Little Pee Dee, was established by French Huguenots around 1685 and is now considered to be a ghost town.
