In the 1860s, the population grew mainly because of the discovery of lucrative silver and gold mines, which led thousands of treasure seekers to move to the state, especially from California .
After World War II, Reno in particular grew rapidly as a gambling city. Las Vegas grew very quickly around 1945 when the mobster ‘Bugsy Siegel’ built the largest casino in the world in the city, namely the Flamingo Hotel.

Eventually Las Vegas became the gambling capital of the world and is now a popular destination for a Nevada Vacation.
